European Cell Mechanics Conference
SofTMech PhD student Louise Mason, supervised by Dr. Huabing Yin, Prof. Mike Olson and Prof. Raymond Ogden, presented a poster at the latest European Cell Mechanics Conference held in Windermere, England, from 21-23 June, 2017
The goal of the conference was to bring together scientists working in cell mechanobiology with an emphasis on the integration of mechanical processes across scales, from subcellular components to tissues. Her poster was entitled ‘The Biomechanical Contribution of Cells to Cancer Invasion’, summarising her recent work on metastasis, using atomic force microscopy and micropatterns to control cell geometries that mimic the spatial constraints in tissues that tumour cells must navigate through. This poster presentation attracted a lot of discussion; especially on how to tune properties of hydrogels to mimic the ECM. The impact of collaborating with mathematicians to model to the cell on these substrates was also discussed to provide a deeper insight into the mechanical contributions to cancer.
Glasgow International Soft Tissue Mechanics Conference
SofTMech PhD students J. Mackenzie, Roxanna Barry and Peter Mortensen presented posters at the recent International Soft Tissue Mechanics Conference in Glasgow.
