Scientific computation and the finite element method on Friday 28th January (9.30am-1pm). Given the current restrictions, this event will be held on Zoom.

The event will cover the theory and practice of implementing the finite element method. The programme is given below. We had hoped to run a hands on examples class as part of this event, but given the restrictions and need to be online we have decided to defer this part until later in the year.

Programme times UK

9:30-10 Theory of the finite element method for PDEs

10-10:30 Applying the finite element method to variational problems

10.30-11 Discretisation of the FEM equations

Break

11.20-11.50 Challenges in using FEM for solid mechanics

11:50-12.20 Worked examples solving FEM problems in ABAQUS

12:20-12:50 Worked examples solving steady and time-evolving PDEs in FEniCS
