Short Description

This course centres on a critical examination of the nature and role of modern audit, its relationship with other practices of governance including risk management and control, and how it has evolved and is evolving in response to a challenging environment.

Course Aims

This course aims to discuss the concepts, theories and issues in auditing, Students will have the opportunity to engage with the academic and professional literature on the auditing profession and practice of audit in order to understand and critically appraise contemporary issues. 

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

1. Appraise the main features of audit theory and critically assess their relevance to audit practice.

2. Critically analyse current topical issues in the practice of audit.

3. Critically assess the basic features of the audit and assurance process

4. Evaluate the professional challenges that face auditing today

5. Evaluate the implications of technology, including data analytics on businesses and the audit process

6. Work collaboratively in a group to produce a combined piece of coursework, by liaising with other class members, allocating tasks and co-ordinating group meetings.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
