Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
The James Watt School of Engineering is dedicated to developing, maintaining and supporting a culture of equality, diversity and inclusion for all its staff and students.
The School was proud to be awarded Athena SWAN Bronze in 2016 and then Silver in 2021. Our ambition is to be a beacon for best-practice, widening EDI beyond gender diversity towards inclusion of all underrepresented groups.
JWSE Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Group
EPSRC awards School with Equality, Diversity and Inclusion funding support
The School has a strong desire to support staff who take parental leave and to ensure that support is available to minimise the long-term impact that this can have on their academic output. The Rowntree Fellowship provides up to £10k to be used as they choose to maintain their career trajectory following parental leave. This might include travel to develop new or reinvigorate research collaborations, conference attendance or to supplement an RA position. Please see our case studies for more information.
The Fellowship is open to all staff who have taken a career break for the purposes of parental leave lasting for a minimum of 4 months.
Applications should provide information on what the funding will be used for and how it will contribute to an academic’s career following such leave.
Please contact Tania Galabova in the first instance for an application form and to discuss your application.
