SofTMech Patient Participation Day, 2nd October, 2018
Issued: Wed, 04 Jul 2018 13:04:00 BST
SofTMech will hold a Patient Participation Day on Tuesday 2nd October at the University of Glasgow. This day will give patients an insight into Mathematical Research in Healthcare and how it might in the future improve their treatment.
Mathematics is the best tool we have to us understand and control complex physiological interactions and abnormal conditions. SofTMech is a leading research centre developing a range of fundamental multiscale mathematical models and statistical inference techniques applicable to heart and cancer diseases. Major aims of SofTMech's mathematical research are to:
- aid and inform clinical practice so better treatments can be found;
- facilitate personalised medicine so each patient may be treated in the way that is best for them them.
The Patient Participation Day will allow patients to find out what SofTMech's work might mean for them.
What will the day involve?
Professor Colin Berry, Professor of Cardiology and Imaging at the University of Glasgow will lead the day. He was the first British clinician to participate in transcatheter aortic valve replacement.
SofTMech Members will offer a range of activities designed to explain and illustrate the nature and methods of our mathematical research into cardiovascular and cancer conditions
Will the event cost anything?
The event is free. Travel, food and accommodation will be paid.
