A look back at the second dialogue with clinicians event, ‘A Dialogue on Cancer’ at Heriot-Watt University.
On 25 November, 2016, SofTMech co-organised the second dialogue with clinicians event, ‘A Dialogue on Cancer’ at Heriot-Watt University. The dialogue workshop focused on bringing together multidisciplinary groups (clinicians, biologists and modellers) and initiated dialogues and collaborations across disciplines, on challenges related to the mechanical and physical aspects of cancer. Specifically, two themed topics were featured:
Microstructure and morphology in cancer and its relation to mechanical forces in cancer and associated diagnostic and intervention methods;
Cancer angiogenesis with regard to tumour initiation, growth and metastasis.
Some 30 researchers attended this event. Profs. Chaplain and Insall from SofTMech gave invited talks, together with a number of other lead researchers and clinicians in the area. All participants gave one minute flash presentations, and were in two mixed groups where they discussed the current challenges and ideas for future collabrations. A formal summary will be produced and potential grant applications will be developed.
