Our first informal training event discussed academic conferences, covering:

  • what actually happens at an academic conference?
  • what can I hope to get out it?
  • how do I network effectively?

The event also included a practical exercise on preparing an elevator pitch for networking with senior academics.

5th Soft Tissue Workshop 1-3rd June 2021

The 5th St. Andrews Soft Tissue workshop took place on Tues. 1st June to Thurs. 3rd June. It was supported by ICMs. There were 100 registered delegates. The three day workshop programme covered the themes of Cardiac Modelling, Multiscale Modelling, Respiration and Circulation, Cancer and Mechanobiology. There were 6 plenary talks,28 talks & a poster session in sococo, preceded by one-minute presentations by the poster delegates. Recordings of all 6 plenary talks can be viewed via link.

On Friday 8th January 2021 an on-line training day organised by Professor Dirk Husmeier and Dr Peter Stewart was held. 51 people registered, a mixture of CIs, RAs and PhD students from the University of Glasgow, University of Plymouth, Terumo Aortic, POLIMI, MIT, EPFL and North Carolina State University. Impact of COVID-19

Because of the rapidly changing COVID-19 virus pandemic, we have decided to postpone all in person events planned for the next few months. The Fifth Soft Tissue workshop due to have been held in St Andrews in June of this year will be postponed until the summer of 2021. We will continue our internal Wednesday Research Meetings on-line. SofTMech wishes everyone to remain safe in these challenging times and our thoughts are with POLIMI and MIT and all our collaborators in other countries.
