On the 26th November 2024 we ran a Patient Day in partnership with the National Research Scotland (NRS) Cardiovascular Research Network. The themes included cardiovascular diseases, the eye and cancer. The programme included a talk by a clinician and a patient. Patients also took part in a variety of experiments which demonstrated how stents work and how your heart gets excited read more....

Funding for Future PCI Planning Centre

Dr Sean McGinty, along with several SofTMech colleagues, have recently been successful in securing EPSRC funding to create a new Centre for Future Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) Planning. The Centre, kicking off in Autumn 2024, aims to develop novel and robust mathematical and statistical methodologies, to create fast and accurate computational tools that will enable clinicians to plan and optimise PCI procedures. We are delighted to announce our public lecture speaker and line up of keynote speakers for the 7th SofTMech Soft Tissue workshop to be held at Politecnico di Milano from the 11th to 13th June 2025. Alfio Quarteroni will give the public lecture where he will look at the impact of artificial intelligence. The key speaker line up is Alain Goriely, Guglielmo Lanzani, Jose F Rodriguez Matas, Santi Trimarchi and Linwei Wang. In the lead up to the workshop we will profile each speaker.

OPPORTUNITY TO PRESENT: The workshop is open for abstract submissions to give a short 17 min talk at the workshop or to present a poster.  The deadline is 14th February 2025.  Abstract submission is open  

COST: Regsitration which includes the conference dinner is £175 or £75 if you are a student.  This includes catering during the day on the 2.5 days of the workshop.

Liuyang's journey

At the end of 2023 we said goodbye to Liuyang Feng. Liuyang started his journey as a PhD student in 2015 working on computational modelling of the mitral valve. He then became a Research Associate with SofTMech from 2019 until 2023 during which time he developed one of the first whole heart FSI models with all valves in the field. We will all miss him and wish him good luck in his new post as a Scientific Software Development Engineer.

Back in 2017 SofTMech awarded funding for a short feasibility study led by Dr Paul Watton of the University of Sheffield and Anne Robertson of the University of Pittsburgh, 6 years on the partnership between the the two Universities continues and has been awarded a 3.2 million National Institute of Research R01 grant to create a digital twin of the bladder - " A Digital Twin for Designing Bladder Treatment informed by Bladder Outlet Obstruction Mechanobiology (BOOM)" Full story ....
